So Long, 2010! It's been real!

Happy Christmas!

I'm sorry it has been so long since I blogged! I was caught up in the Christmas rush with parties, shopping, and all those little Christmas tasks that must be completed.

I have had a really good last couple of weeks. They have been stressful, but I feel that it was all worth my trouble. Everyone had a nice time at the corporate events I've worked so hard at and best of all, we finished up the Christmas for Families program at work today.

I was able to take some gifts to one of the five families in need yesterday. She was a single mom with a five year old son and a three year old daughter living at a local women's shelter. She was also nine months pregnant. It felt so good to be able to hand over bicycles, clothing, and toys for her and her children. A coworker and friend of mine, Savanna, delivered to a local family in need today whose story was absolutely touching. The mother was single and was recovering from major brain surgery. She said she was faced with the decision of paying the electric bill or having Christmas. Her two daughters, ages seven and ten, had written a letter to Santa and didn't ask for a single toy, but just to make their mom better. It is amazing what children can teach us. These little girls were so humble and wise beyond their years.

This Holiday season, I am grateful for so many things. I don't know what it is like to go without anything. I am blessed so, so very much. I am finding myself wondering what I have done in my life to deserve all I have. I am also grateful that I have been able to lend a hand in helping these families. Their stories touched my heart. I think it is absolutely necessary to have experiences like that to put things in our lives in perspective. Christmas is about being thankful for what we have, remembering the birth of our Lord, and loving our family and friends. That's it. Gifts are not important.

I heard one of my most favorite songs on the radio yesterday morning for the first time this season. It always touches my heart. I think it explains Christmas in a raw and beautiful way that I can relate to. It is the Christmas Song by Dave Matthews Band and it goes like this:

She was his girl; he was her boyfriend

She be his wife; take him as her husband

A surprise on the way, any day, any day

One healthy little giggling dribbling baby boy

The wise men came three made their way

To shower him with love

While he lay in the hay

Shower him with love love love

Love love is all around

Not very much of his childhood was known

Kept his mother Mary worried

Always out on his own

He met another Mary for a reasonable fee, less than

Reputable as known to be

His heart was full of love love love

Love love is all around

When Jesus Christ was nailed to the his tree

Said "oh, Daddy-o I can see how it all soon will be

I came to she'd a little light on this darkening scene

Instead I fear I spill the blood of my children all around"

The blood of our children all around

So the story goes, so I'm told

The people he knew were

Less than golden hearted

Gamblers and robbers

Drinkers and jokers, all soul searchers

Like you and me

Rumors insisted he soon would be

For his deviations

Taken into custody by the authorities

Less informed than he

Drinkers and jokers all soul searchers

Searching for love love love

Love love is all around

Preparations were made

For his celebration day

He said "eat this bread and think of it as me Drink this wine and dream it will be

The blood of our children all around
Father up above, why in all this anger have you fill

Me up with love

Fill me up with love love love

The blood of our children all around

Black Friday

Does anyone out there like to shop on Black Friday? I got really into it a few years ago. My friend, Jessi and I would get up super early and go at 4 am. We stood in line for random things like shop vacs, Barbie jeeps, and 600 thread count sheets. Last year, I didn't have anyone that wanted to go with me, so I just decided I would run over to Wal Mart. I think it was the worst I've ever seen it. I didn't get most of the things I wanted and stood in line for an hour for things I didn't like all that much. But hey, when you go shopping at 4 in the morning you just can't come home empty handed.

When I got home, I logged onto the computer only to find every single thing I waited in line for at walmart.com with free shipping included! Then, a couple of days later I was getting my hair cut and my hairdresser informed me she had gone to Wal Mart at midnight and gotten everything she wanted crowd-free. I swore that would be the end of my Black Friday madness.

There is a website that has sneak previews of leaked Black Friday ads. I went to the site and looked at the Wal Mart, Hastings, and Shopko ads today. I don't know what it is, but I just get this FEVER! I feel like I have to purchase every deal, when most of it is stuff I don't even need! It is absolute madness.

I haven't decided what I will do this year. I think I will most likely do the online thing again this year. However, I am looking for a steal on a Wii...

So if a crazy woman runs in front of you on your way to the checkout line or cuts you off on Hitt Road on the way to Target or Best Buy... give her a break, she just has the FEVER! It isn't her fault. And be sure to look twice because, who knows, it might just be me!

Fall Happenings

I haven't blogged in a while. I've just been so busy! My 24th birthday was earlier this week and I had a really fun time hanging out with family and friends. I got so many fun gifts!! I loved all of them!

This is a purse my cousin, Lori made for me. Isn't it cute?

I also received a gift certificate to get a manicure.

Justin brought me some beautiful flowers :)

I had dinner at Garcia's with some friends. I got some other awesome gifts too... money, a new digital watch, and even a birthday card in the mail from my dear Lizzie, which was a nice surprise :) I LOVE getting things like that in the mail! I guess just because I'm only used to getting junk and bills in my mailbox, it is really exciting when something fun comes along!

We also had our costume contest/potato bar potluck at work today. It was a good time. We had people show up in the most random costumes. One really timid guy in accounting came in full goth. An IT guy came as a bar code that you could actually scan with a smart phone. The UPC was linked to his website with all his previous halloween costumes. Crazy, huh? I guess only an IT guy would think of that! I went as Rosie the Riveter. Most people recognized who I was right off the bat, but a few people thought I was Aunt Jemima... wtf? Open your history book, peeps!

Our HR manager came as Donald Trump (wig and all) and his staff were all contestants of The Apprentice. Standing next to me in this photo is Mindy donning her Apprentice getup and Savanna in her super cute Twister costume.

Friday Night Sushi

On Friday night my friends and I went to the “What Today’s Women Want” conference after work. I think the conference concept was cool, but it wasn’t as good as I had hoped it to be. They had fun things like Scentsy, handmade soap, cooking things, and even knockoff purses. I almost bought a cute knockoff coach, but then I found out it was $85! REDIC! I could get a nice purse that isn’t a knockoff for that much money. I was suckered into buying this crazy sauce made by Shirley J called “universal sauce.” Supposedly you can make just about anything with it: sauces, soups, casseroles, etc. You can even use it as a substitute for canned soup in recipes. Who knew?! I haven’t tried it yet… I will have to report back on how that goes.

After that we decided to go out for sushi. Yes, sushi! I had never really had sushi before, so it was an adventure! I liked Mindy’s roll better than mine. Hers was spicy and I will for sure get that one next time! Mine had unagi (eel), crab, and avocado in it. It was pretty good. I had a hard time with the eel, though. There was a big long strip of it in the end of the roll and I just couldn’t make myself eat that piece. It felt too much like Fear Factor. But the rest of it was tasty!

This weekend I visited my mom and dad. My mom and I started some Christmas sewing projects. This weekend, Justin is going on a Steelhead fishing trip to Salmon. I will probably do some more sewing at my mom’s house. I figure I might as well knock some gifts out while I have the time. I am taking a 2 week break from school right now (HOORAY!). I plan on doing lots of crafting and reading. I am kind of a nerd, but it’s what I enjoy! It is also my birthday weekend! Wahoo! I don’t have any big plans, really. Just dinner with some friends and hanging out with family. I think Justin and I will do something on Monday, but I’m not sure what yet. I want to go get a pedicure or something, we’ll see. I just want a nice, relaxing weekend :)

Mockingjay

O...M...G... I just finished the final book of the Hunger Games series, "Mockingjay."

If you have not read this book yet do not read on *SPOILER ALERT*

Mom, this means you. You are totally going to read this series whether you like it or not... so don't read on!

This book completely threw me for a loop. I thought I had it figured out before I even started reading it. A friend of mine, who is team Gale hated this book. I thought Gale would die in the war and Katniss would end up with Peeta. Boy was I wrong. I am 100% team Peeta, by the way.

I knew a lot of people would die, but the deaths in the book really surprised me. The first time I thought, "WHAT?! Are you kidding me?!" was near the end when Coin proposes that District 13 have their own Hunger Games with the children and grandchildren of prominent capitol members. And then I was really thrown when Katniss actually votes in favor of having the games. I was so disappointed in her! But that is what I love about the book, Katniss is the hero, but she's not perfect. That makes her really relatable.

Of course Katniss assasinating Coin instead of Snow was crazy. I was completely shocked but also a little disappointed too. She had been dreaming of killing Snow since the beginning of the series, and she didn't carry out her vendetta. But I thought that was still a really cool turn to the plot.

Overall, I am happy with the ending of the series. Gale is stupid and heartless! But I do love Peeta :)

Post your thoughts if you have read this book!

Movies I've Seen Recently

Last week, my friends and I went to see You Again. It was super funny! I think it is a perfect movie to see with your mom or with a group of girlfriends. It stars Jamie Lee Curtis, Kristen Bell, Sigourney Weaver and... my favorite... Betty White! I laughed through the whole thing and recommend it 100%! Even thought I said it is a good movie to see with your mom, I totally think guys would like it too!
This weekend I went to see "Life as we Know It" starring Katherine Heigl (not my favorite) and Josh Duhamel. This movie was a mash up of a romantic comedy and drama. Katherine Heigl and Josh Duhamel's characters hate eachther, but when mutual friends are killed in a car accident, they are left with their baby, Sophie. I thought it was a really cute show! I don't think guys will like this one so much though. This is totally a movie to see with your mom or sister or girlfriends.

We also rented "Get Him to the Greek" starring Jonah Hill and Russell Brand. This movie was a spinoff of "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" (which was hilarious).I loved "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" and was really psyched to see GHthG. It was funny, but I was a little disappointed. It didn't move very fast and wasn't quite as funny as I'd hoped it to be. Forgetting Sarah Marshall was definitely funnier. Still a fun comedy though!

Well... after a fun weekend I guess its back to the grind...

Prezi

I have been working on a school project this week and I had to learn how to use a presentation program called Prezi. It is really cool... and free! I was playing around with it and I made this presentation about myself. Just thought I'd post it for fun!

Fall Fun

This weekend was super fun! Friday was like classic old days... I went to Rupe's followed by a football game with Jessi. Blackfoot vs. Skyline. Of course, Blackfoot won! No matter how long I live away from Blackfoot every time I go back there it just feels like home... something just clicks. Maybe I just felt that more because I was at a hometown football game, but I just love that place! Blackfoot is totally boring but it just feels good to be there! Friday was perfect football game weather too! It was an extra cool game because the Channel 6 helicopter landed on the field, which was exciting!

I do have to say that the halftime show was a little weird! I don't think the marching band is what it used to be. They played a mash up of Frank Sinatra and the Impossible Dream... with random inspirational quotes in between. Weird! We had a lot of fun though! Sometimes those games feel like a reunion.
I also went to my friend, Savanna's 26th birthday bash with Mindy. It was a lot of fun! Mindy and I made a night of it and went to my favorite sandwich shop in Rexburg and then the Cocoa Bean (a yummy cupcake cafe). The party had a black and white theme and was super cute! And just in case you didn't know... I cut ALL my hair off! I'm sporting a pixie these days and I'm LOVING it! I don't know if I will ever have long hair again. I'm sure someday I will. Eventually I will get tired of this style and want something else, but for now its great!

I'm SO pumped that the fall shows are starting up again! Here are my top picks:
The Office
Glee
30 Rock
Dancing with the Stars (all because of The Situation)
Jersey Shore
Teen Mom
Vampire Diaries
Gossip Girl
Running Wild (I have yet to see this, but you can never go wrong with Will Arnett)

Here is my favorite quote from last week's Glee:

"Boobs McGee you are demoted to the bottom of the pyramid, so when it collapses, your exploding sandbags will keep everyone safe from injury."

- Sue Sylvester, talking to Santana about her summer boob job.

Catching Fire

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This was a very good book. I thought it was a little more depressing than the Hunger Games. There wasn't that spark of hope from Katniss that she had in the beginning. Throughout the book, it just shows how bad the Capitol has beaten her down. I loved it though, and I can't wait to start Mockingjay!

Just finished the Undomestic Goddess

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This was a good, light, fun read! I would recommend it!

Labor Day Weekend Fun

I started off the Labor Day weekend with the tradition of going to the big parade in Blackfoot. Its something my family has always done since my Mom lives right in the middle of all the festivities. The picture down below is of my dad patrolling his lawn!
We backed my Dad's truck up to the street and watched all the floats go by with my little cousins. They just couldn't get enough candy. At one point, the Fort Hall Casino float came by and were shooting t-shirts out into the crowd. Jake wanted one SO bad! To his surprise, one came his direction. He unfolded the shirt only to find that it was something advertising their senior citizen activities... what a buzz kill.

It was a fun time, though! We had a barbecue afterward and ate lots of fresh food from the garden and hamburgers too.

Saturday night was my beautiful cousin, Gabrielle's quinceanera party. She look SO gorgeous! We had a really good time with family and friends. She even got her first car!
On Sunday, I continued to hang out with some family. Then, when Justin got off of work, we went out to catch a movie. We saw the Expendables and Dinner for Schmuks. I liked both of them, especially the latter!
On Monday, we went to the fair, which was always fun! I ate so many things that are awful for me (corn dogs, bread with honey butter, scones). But it was SO GOOD and SO worth the splurge! I'm going again on Friday with my friend Jessi. It was a super fun long weekend!

Summer Update

I haven't blogged in so stinking long! This has been a complete whirlwind of a summer! Since last time I blogged, my sister-in-law, Alesha got married. Her and her husband, Erik are so cute. We are so happy to have Erik in the family! Congratulations, Erik and Alesha!

I also had an opportunity to work up in Grand Teton National Park last weekend. My room had the BEST view!
I have also been going to Zumba classes this summer with my friend, Mindy. They are so much fun! We really have had a blast. I have some new stellar booty shaking abilities!
I have been reading here and there whenever I can. I read the Hunger Games at the beginning of the summer and fell in love with it. The story is amazing and just sucked me right in. I started the second novel of the series, Catching Fire, during the thick of all the events I was planning... and unfortunately, I didn't get time to finish it before it was due. I only got about 1/2 of the way through it, and it must be great, because the wait list at the library is never-ending. I bought it today and will finish it soon. I also bought the final novel of the series that just came out this month, Mockingjay.

I have been reading some Sophie Kinsella as well and I love her! Her stories make me laugh out loud. I read Can You Keep a Secret first, and that was great. I am currently listening to The Undomestic Goddess and like it so far.

I am also still reading the Vampire Academy series. I am almost done with the 3rd book, Shadow Kiss, and I love it so far. The series is great. I think I like it as much, or even better, than Twilight. Bella is just hard for me to take... so codependent and whiny!

The Fair starts this weekend, so I'm sure that's what I'll be doing with one of my days off! I'm really excited to spend a whole day with Justin... it seems like that rarely happens for us! I'll make sure to complete the experience with a pronto pup, scone nuggets, and maybe a funnel cake : D

Weekend Work and Play

This last Friday was our annual Tom Sherwood Memorial Golf Tournament. It was fun to plan and fun to work but boy am I glad it is over!

Throughout the week, the Blue Angels have been practicing right over our office building. It was so cool! Justin and I sat outside on Sunday to catch a glimpse of the show. Here are some videos:

A Day for the Record Books

Just so everyone knows, I am officially quitting diet soda for 3 weeks (maybe longer if I notice a difference in how I feel). Yes, that's right, no more diet soda for at least 3 weeks. Mindy and I are doing a 3 week do or die workout/diet plan of our own creation to lose some weight before my sister in law's wedding and her Alaska vacation. I'm posting it here so I have to stick to it!

Busy times!

Wow! I do not have any time to blog lately! Here are some photos of what has been keeping me so busy!

This is my cute sister in law, Alesha and her soon to be husband, Erik. I am planning a bridal shower for her with lots of fun and cute things. She and Erik will be here to visit next week and I am really excited to see her and meet Erik! I hope she has a great time at the shower I'm planning... I've never done a bridal shower before!

I'm still trying to go running when I have the time. These are some photos of where I go running on the greenbelt.
... Summer barbeques...

This is my dad in his traditional 4th attire : )

...Baseball games...

These mascots were supposed to be russets... but kind of just looked like poop wearing crowns

...Fly fishing...

... Planning Summer events at work...

We had a big open house at work that we invited like 700 people to last Thursday. It was a fun, successful event. I did breathe a big sigh of relief when it was over, though.

Today is my anniversary and I was hoping to go somewhere fun, but sadly, Justin has to work :(

Next week we have the annual golf tournament, so it will be a busy week again! Hopefully I get some time to blog and post some pictures of the shower!

What I’ve Been Up To

Summer is approaching and things are getting busy as usual. The weather in Idaho isn't really reflecting what most would think of as summer. Everything is so green here right now and the river is fast and high due to all the excess rain we have been getting. I love the rain, but I am ready to put my shorts on and get a suntan.

Monday is Justin's 25th birthday. We had a barbeque at Freeman Park this weekend with family to celebrate. It was nice to see everyone and be together. Justin and I are officially celebrating his birthday on Tuesday as we both have the day off. He is going to teach me how to fly fish, which I am super excited for. I have already tied my first fly! That was pretty fun and crafty. I think fly fishing is a beautiful and artistic sport and I am very eager to learn. If anything else, it will be really nice to have a day alone with my husband on the lake. Seems like we don't get too much time for stuff like that anymore!

My darling sister in law, Alesha, has gotten engaged! I am so happy for her. She is truly a doll. She asked me to plan her bridal shower this week, so that has been on my mind as well. There are so many cute ideas out there. Google has been my friend! I have never planned a bridal shower before, so this is definitely a first. I think we will have a good time, though. I just hope I don't disappoint her, I want her to have a great time! I am honored that she asked me and I am grateful that I can do this for her before she becomes a Mrs!

Today I am just trying to relax. There is a Keeping up with the Kardashians marathon on right now, so that's what I'm up to at the moment. I'm almost done with another book, so hopefully I'll get that finished before the weekend is over. I have read a couple of books lately. The most recent that I finished was Shiver. It was about a girl that was attacked by wolves when she was young and the pack that resides in the forest just beyond her backyard. It was OK, a little disappointing and slow, though. I also read the first Vampire Academy book, which was really good. I have moved onto the second, called Frostbitten and I'm almost finished. I really like it as well.

However, my favorite book that I have read this spring and probably for quite a while is The Hunger Games. If you haven't read it, I really would recommend it. It was absolutely amazing. I can't wait to read Catching Fire, the sequel.

TV!

I haven't blogged for ages! Here goes:

I don't know if anyone has been watching much tv, but our weather has been so crappy so I have been! All my favorite shows are winding down for the season and getting good! Here's what I've liked so far:

First of all, I'm SO happy that Lee DeWyze was crowned winner of Idol. However, I am sad that it was Simon's last episode. The finale was SO good! They had lots of wonderful and talented guests such as Alanis Morissette, Dane Cook, Hall & Oates, Joe Cocker, Janet Jackson, and all previous Idol winners. It was just so entertaining! I will miss Simon, he was my favorite and pretty much my whole reason for watching the show. But I am so happy Lee won. I really thought Crystal had it in the bag, but I was pleasantly surprised!
Glee has just been phenomenal, as always! This week was the Gaga episode and I loved it. I absolutely love everything about that show and it is just getting better and better.
The Bachelorette started this week and there are some pretty interesting guys on there! My favorite already is Roberto. Lol, although the dork in cowboy boots was good, too.

Gossip Girl's season finale was juicy! *spoiler alert* Chuck Bass better live or I won't be watching anymore. Although, I could see him dying and then haunting Blair Waldorf and all the other upper east siders. He could be like Stefano on Days of Our Lives and never really go away... ridic! And Jenny Humphrey needs to go away permanently... just plain annoying.

I was disappointed in the Office finale, although I am glad Holly might be returning! I think Holly and Jan will have to have a show down over Michael at some point and that will be interesting! I really like Kathy Bates on that show too, she really gives it another level of comedy that I don't think it tapped into previously.
I hope there are some new and good shows starting this summer. Although, I don't plan on watching much TV when the weather is actually nice! Now if Idaho would just get with the program...
